The climate plate
Around a fifth of all greenhouse gas emissions in Germany are caused by food. In order to raise awareness of the ecological footprint we leave behind with our food choices, we will be labelling selected dishes with the KlimaTeller logo from 2024. The logo marks climate-friendly dishes in the canteen menu that produce at least 50% less CO2 than comparable, average dishes. When calculating the CO2e emissions, all ingredients on the plate that are produced from the field to the kitchen are taken into account. 20 Studierendenwerke across Germany are participating in the KlimTeller project, which is run by NAHhaft e.V., a non-profit organisation that promotes sustainable food systems. The common goal is to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in communal catering. The project is funded by the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Protection (BMWK) as part of the National Climate Initiative (NKI) and runs until January 2026. A survey on the Klimateller is currently taking place until 10 November 2024. Click here for the survey.
